Government Official Says Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, as Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense minister has confirmed that the MoD is currently examining the possible security risks associated with Chinese cars, and personnel have been told to avoid talking about secret matters in any cars.

Safety Advice for MoD Staff

During a recently aired appearance on a radio station, a defence minister addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to discuss secret information while travelling in Chinese vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “investigating” cars from China within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that security is a concern in every contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is not to plug MoD technology into their car, not to have discussions at a secret classification in any vehicle, because of the growing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. That’s a prudent and sensible thing for anyone worried about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all cars from China, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we are looking into at the moment.”

Broader Security Context

This announcement follows claims from Norway and Denmark have warned the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use kill switches in Chinese-made electric buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and cause disruption to public transit.

Additionally, a Russian spy ship has been shining lasers at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by defence officials.

This wider security situation highlights the significance of strong protocols and caution in every aspects of official activities, from transport usage to communication habits.
